Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about PrepPanel

🔒 Privacy & Security

Q: Where is my student data stored?

PrepPanel stores all data locally on your device. Student names, participation logs, mastery evidence, and all other data live on your computer, not on our servers.

For features like Live Pacing Sync that require real-time collaboration, PrepPanel uses peer-to-peer WebRTC connections. Your data syncs directly between your devices without passing through PrepPanel servers.

Q: Is PrepPanel FERPA/COPPA compliant?

Yes. PrepPanel does not collect personally identifiable information (PII). All student data stays on your local device. We don't track student names, emails, or any other identifying information.

Q: Can I export or delete my data?

Absolutely. PrepPanel gives you full control:

  • Export: Use the CSV export feature to download participation logs and mastery data anytime
  • Delete: Uninstall the extension and all local data is removed from your device

💰 Pricing & Access

Q: Is PrepPanel really free?

Yes! PrepPanel is currently 100% free during beta while we build toward launch. All PrepPanel Pro features are available at no cost. No credit card required, no trial period, no hidden costs. You can install it from the Chrome Web Store and start using all features immediately.

Q: Will PrepPanel always be free?

PrepPanel is free during beta. To sustain ongoing development, server costs, and new features, we'll introduce pricing for PrepPanel Pro as we grow. When that happens:

  • We'll give advance notice before any pricing changes
  • Core classroom management features will remain accessible
  • Pricing will be affordable. Our mission is to support teachers, not nickel-and-dime them

The only feature that requires internet is Live Pacing Sync, which uses WebRTC for real-time collaboration across devices.

Q: Can I use PrepPanel on iPad or mobile devices?

PrepPanel is currently a desktop Chrome extension. Mobile/tablet support is on our roadmap based on user feedback.

For now, you'll need to use PrepPanel on a desktop or laptop computer running a Chromium-based browser.

Q: How do I install PrepPanel?
  1. Visit the Chrome Web Store
  2. Click "Add to Chrome"
  3. Open PrepPanel from the extensions menu (puzzle icon in Chrome)
  4. Set up your first class and start using it!

Most teachers are up and running in 5-10 minutes.

🔗 Integration & Usage

Q: Does PrepPanel integrate with Google Classroom, Canvas, or other LMS platforms?

PrepPanel works independently and doesn't require integration with your LMS. You can import rosters via CSV or enter student names manually.

PrepPanel complements your LMS by handling classroom logistics (participation, grouping, seating, pacing) that LMS tools don't address.

Q: What grade levels is PrepPanel designed for?

K-12. We have both elementary and secondary teachers using PrepPanel for discussion, group work, seating charts, and self-paced learning.

PrepPanel has customizable settings to fit different grade levels (e.g., elementary mode for multiple subjects per class, single-subject mode for secondary).

Q: How many students can I have in a class?

There's no hard limit, but PrepPanel is optimized for typical class sizes (15-40 students). It works with larger classes too. Some teachers use it with 50+ students.

Q: Can I use PrepPanel for multiple classes?

Yes! You can create as many classes as you need and switch between them easily. Each class maintains its own:

  • Student roster
  • Grouping rules
  • Seating charts
  • Participation logs
  • Mastery tracking
  • Self-paced roadmaps
